5년전 파이널판타지 8 개발진은 복사칩이 달린 PS를 사용하지 못하도록 파판 자체내에 복사칩을 달았는지 달지 않았는지 인식할 수 있는 락을 걸어, 만약 복사칩을 단 PS 가 있다면 게임이 실행되지 못하도록 파판 8를 개발하였다. 그러나 파판8 발매후 한달뒤 대만의 모제조업체에서 스텔스칩이라는 차세대 복사칩을 만들었다. 이칩은 처음에 파판8이 부팅하여 복사칩의 유무를 감지하는 테스트를 할때 복사칩이 없는 것처럼 보이는 일명 스텔스 기능을 작동시키고 테스트가 넘어가면 다시 복사모드로 바뀌었다. 이후 이칩은 불티나게 팔렸고 전세계의 걸쳐 어둠의 밀리언셀러가 되었다.

2003년말 드디어 PS2에는 스텔스칩을 이을 차세대 모드칩 DMS3 ('Dev.olution Memory System :Third)가 등장하였다. 그동안 SOCOM, FF12, 에버퀘스트 등 PS2용 온라인게임의 등장으로 구형 복사칩이 달린 PS2에서는 온라인 게임을 할 수가 없었다.

그러나 이번에 나온 DMS3 칩은 PS1때 스텔스칩처럼 복사와 정품게임을 자동으로 인식하여 정품게임을 넣었을때는 자동으로 스텔스 기능이 발동하여 안심하고 온라인게임을 즐길 수 있다.

또한 DMS3칩은 기존의 복사칩에 비해 발열량이 적고 호환성이 뛰어나 저가공시디로도 무난하게 게임을 할 수 있다.

사용방법 또한 획기적으로, PS패드 버튼에 따라 모드가 바뀐다.

사용법::
일단 처음 PS2를 켜면 소니로고가 나오고 자체 브라우저가 뜨는 것은 아실 겁니다. 이상태에서 세모, 네모, 동그라미, 엑스 버튼에 따라서 모드를 결정한다음 게임시디를 넣으면 됩니다.

엑스:       PS2 Mode
동그라미: PSX Mode
네모:       DVD Video Mode
세모:       Dev.olution Mode

당연한 말이지만 시디를 넣고 리셋을 누를 필요가 없고, 액플도 사용가능합니다. 그리고 이 칩은 시디롬처럼 펌웨어 업그레이드를 할 수 있어서 나중에 홈페이지를 통해 드라이브를 받아서 업그레이드를 할 수 있다고 합니다. 그래서 MP3 플레이어기능이나 Vcd, Divx 기능을 추가시킬수 있습니다.. 현재 DMS테크롤로지사는 후속기종으로 탈부착이 가능한 DMS X-B.I.T 칩을 개발중입니다.

What is DMS?

DMS means 'Dev.olution Memory System'. It is as special feature of the most advanced upgrade device for your PS2, it is fully compatible with all consoles* from all regions. With inbuilt autoconfiguration algorithms there is now no need for any jumpers or links. It allows you to run executables from your memory card like DivX Player, selfmade logo, MP3 Player...Just wire it in, and switch it on!

Also we have added: DVD region free, Macrovision off, Flash upgrade feature!

Will this device damage my PS2 console?

No, DMS3 is a 'console friendly' design and will in no way &damage your console. Please view "SPECS" for further information.

How many wires are necessary for installation?

Through consistent design improvement, we have reduced the number of wires to just 23.

Why do we consider the DMS3 to be the 3rd generation modchip?

Features never before seen on other mods, such as the MP3 and DivX features have been implemented. Finally, perhaps the most important feature, the ability to update the compatibility by reflashing the DMS3 by CD. Another world first!

Many Other Modchip designs did not have an on-board clock, why has this feature been reinstated on DMS3's board?

We carried out extensive R&D into the clock signal issue and found problems with the clock signal on some PS2 units. In order to provide a much more stable MOD, we have included an on board clock.

Are all versions and regions supported?

During development, as many consoles as possible were tested with DMS3.
These included:

Euro V3, V4-gap, V5, V6, V7, v8
USA V3, V4, V4 non-gap, V5, V7, V8
Jap V0(SCPH-10000, SCPH 15000), V4 non-gap, V5, V7, V8

How long would it take to add support for unlisted console?

As soon as unlisted console becomes available to the developers, most unlisted consoles just need to be enabled in the chip's internal auto configuration.

Is it worth buying a cheaper modchip?

We would like to give an objective answer to this. If you feel that the features offered to you by the DMS3 (DivX, MP3, Flash upgrade feature, voltage stability, DVD region free, Macrovision off, complete compatibility and stealth mode) are worth the higher price tag then buy it! If not buy a cheaper MOD. But please be aware that we offer the most safe hardware design for your PS2 console.
