As mentioned in our Past News, today the NinjaMod Team have officially unveiled their WiiNja (Web site appears down at the moment) Nintendo Wii Mod-Chip! The 12C508 PIC Mod-Chip only requires 5 wires to be soldered to play both Wii and GameCube back-ups of the same region as the console for approximately $45 US. An Installation picture is available, along with the Solder Points (Pins 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are used) and a video below as well!
Finally, before running out and dumping $45 on a Wii Mod-Chip, it may be worthwhile to wait a few weeks (or perhaps days only ) after the release... as it's a 12C508 based PIC chip, standard EEPROM Programmers will allow you to flash the hexcode to make your own Wii Mod-Chip 12C508 Clones for a few cents each (assuming you still have a Programmer laying around from the old PSX/PS2 early Mod-Chip days).
Of course the retail WiiNja Mod-Chips will be protected (fuses blown) from end-users reading the code into your EEPROM Programmer to obtain the hexcode, however, throughout the Internet as well as the 'scene' there are many companies and individuals who do "HexCode Recovery" (the process isn't difficult- it requires using acid and some moderately priced equipment) so we do not expect there to be much of a delay before the Wii 12C508 hexcode becomes publically available.
